The Woodlands, Texas

Timber Roots. Planned Growth.

The Woodlands is a master-planned community of villages spread across southern Montgomery County and a small part of Harris County, about 28 miles north of Houston. From established homes in Grogan’s Mill to newer construction in Creekside Park, Rainy Day Roofing, Siding, & Windows delivers storm-ready protection built for Texas weather.

From Timberland To The Woodlands

The Woodlands began in 1964, when oilman George P. Mitchell bought timberland from the Grogan-Cochran Lumber Company, including the first 2,800 acres of the future community. Over the next decade he assembled more than 17,000 additional acres, and on October 19, 1974, The Woodlands celebrated its grand opening with its first village, Grogan’s Mill.

The Woodlands Today

Villages like Panther Creek, Cochran’s Crossing, Alden Bridge, Sterling Ridge, and Creekside Park followed, built around Mitchell’s goal of preserving the forest. Today The Woodlands is home to more than 114,000 residents and is governed by The Woodlands Township rather than a city.

The Woodlands Home Improvement FAQs

Answers to common questions from homeowners considering roofing, siding, or window work in The Woodlands.

Do I need approval to replace my roof in The Woodlands?

Yes. The Woodlands Township’s Covenants and Standards require prior written approval from your village’s Residential Design Review Committee or Covenant Administration staff for exterior changes like a roof replacement. We help you gather the material and color details you need for your application.

Can I change my shingle color in The Woodlands?

Often, yes, but your color has to fit The Woodlands standards and any criteria specific to your neighborhood. We can bring samples of shingle colors that are commonly approved and help you choose before you apply.

How do pine trees affect roofs in The Woodlands?

Pine needles collect in valleys and gutters, hold moisture, and can shorten the life of your shingles, while overhanging limbs can scrape or puncture a roof during storms.

We check valleys, gutters, and areas under overhanging branches during every inspection and let you know if anything needs attention.

How much is a roof in The Woodlands?

Homes in The Woodlands often have complex rooflines with multiple valleys and steep pitches, and the size, pitch, and material you choose all affect the final price.

A shingle roof will likely vary between $10,000-$25,000.

What siding works best in The Woodlands?

Hardie fiber-cement siding is popular in The Woodlands because it resists rot and moisture under heavy tree cover and can be finished in natural, earthy colors that fit the community’s forested look.

Which villages in The Woodlands do you serve?

We serve every village in The Woodlands, including Grogan’s Mill, Cochran’s Crossing, Panther Creek, Indian Springs, Alden Bridge, College Park, Sterling Ridge, and Creekside Park, plus nearby Shenandoah, Oak Ridge North, and Spring.
